The Paragraph


    1.    Define what is a paragraph?
A paragraph consists of several sentences that are grouped together.  This group of sentences together discuss one main subject.

    2.    What are the three main parts of a paragraph?
Paragraphs have three principal parts.  These three parts are the topic sentence, body sentences, and the concluding sentence.

    3.    Identify some characteristics of the topic sentence.
Not only is a topic sentence the first sentence of a paragraph.
It is the most general sentence in a paragraph.
There are not many details in the sentence, but that the sentence introduces an overall idea that you want to discuss later in the paragraph.
  
    4.   Identify some characteristics of the supporting sentences.
They are called "supporting" because they "support," or explain, the idea expressed in the topic sentence.
At minimum, you should have at least five to seven sentences in your paragraph.

    5.    Identify some characteristics of the concluding sentence.
Is a sentence at the end of the paragraph which summarizes the information that has been presented.
You can think of a concluding sentence as a sort of topic sentence in reverse.

    6.    Write one topic sentence for each of the following topics:
·         Your hometown
My hometown is known as "the cultural place" for many years.
·         A place you would like to travel to.
 I would like to travel to England, it is very intresting place.
·         (Another topic of your own choosing)

    7.    Choose one of the above topics and write ONE complete paragraph about it. You should use a good topic sentence and adequately detailed supporting sentences. Do not forget to write down a concluding sentence.

Biography of Joanne Kathleen Rowling

3.       Describe the person's enviroment.
She was born to Peter James Rowling and Anne Rowling. Her mother Anne was half-French, half-Scottish. Her mother's maternal grandfather, Dr Dugald Campbell, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mother's paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte during the First World War.
Rowling's sister Dianne was born at their home when Rowling was 23 months old.The family moved to the nearby village Winterbourne when Rowling was four. She attended St Michael's Primary School, a school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformer Hannah More. Her headmaster at St Michael's, Alfred Dunn, has been suggested as the inspiration for the Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
4.      Write some of the accomplishments the person has done.
Best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. The Potter books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million copies to become the best-selling book series in history and been the basis for a popular series of films, in which Rowling had overall approval on the scripts as well as maintaining creative control by serving as a producer on the final instalment. Rowling conceived the idea for the series on a train trip from Manchester to London in 1990.
5.      How does your character affects other people?
Rowling, once a single parent herself, is now president of the charity One Parent Families, having already become their first Ambassador in 2000. Rowling collaborated with Sarah Brown to write a book of children's stories to aid One Parent Families.
To further support the CHLG, Rowling auctioned one of seven handwritten and illustrated copies of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a series of fairy tales referred to in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
6.       State your personal opinion about the person you chose.
I think she is a really interested person because I love Harry Potter books and off course film. I think she has changed a lot the people´s mind with her books and above all children´s minds because the most of children like Harry Potter or all about the magic. So it is an interesting way to catch the attention of kids and teenagers and maybe from this way they will be more interested about read.
